She’s sleek and she’s sooty,

So shiny and black.

She’s fast and flighty,

She’s head of the pack.

Darting and diving,

She’ll run and she’ll race.

Skimming through grassland,

In excited chase.

She’s lean and so lovely,

A most fearsome guard.

She’ll growl and she’ll bark

On her side of the yard.

She’ll leap up to greet us,

She’ll twirl and she’ll prance.

We return home

To a welcoming dance.

Devoted and tender,

She’s faithful and fond.

She licks our faces,

To seal our firm bond.

So active and busy,

She’ll gnaw and she’ll chew,

Sticks, pens and soft toys,

A slipper - a shoe!

When resting together,

She curls up and lies,

Dozy and dreamy,

She breathes sleepy sighs.
